Martin van Esch<\/a> offers private, exciting and informative moose safaris in the forests around Arvika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Glaskogens Naturreserva<\/a>t<\/a> offers an exciting wildlife tour through the untamed nature of the Glaskogen Nature Reserve with focus on the king of the forest, the moose, for families and groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p> <\/p><\/div> <\/p><\/div> White moose have been around for a long time in the forests of Arvika and they are estimated to be around 50-100 of them all around V\u00e4rmland. A meeting with the king of the forest in its natural habitat is an experience to never forget, and seeing a white moose enhances this experience even further. Despite the animal’s all-white appearance, its colouring is not due to albinism, a condition in which melanin cannot be produced. Cases of albinism in animals and in people result in light or pinkish-coloured eyes, since the lack of pigmentation affects every cell. The white fur on the white moose is instead caused by leucism, which is a contidion in which melanin can be produced but not stored. Leucism is inheritable and even brown moose can carry the gene. This means that a brown moose can have white calfs, and a white moose can have brown calfs. The white moose are not placed under protection, however many hunting parties protect them.<\/p>\n\n\n There are plenty of moose in our beautiful woods around Arvika. If you don’t feel like going on a guided moose safari and decide to explore the woods by yourself the chances of seeing a moose are still pretty high. Our advice is to go out either at dusk or dawn, when the moose are most active and go out on smaller country roads. If you are lucky enough to see a moose then you are free to photograph it but we ask you to please respect the animals and the environement that they live in by not trying to impose on the mooses, littering, scaring or disturbing them.
