Gammelvala is arranged at Skutboudden at Brunskog\u2019s Hembygdsg\u00e5rd. In the area there are about 30 buildings where there is full activity during this week. Take a look inside the old shop, the post office, the pottery and the weaving cottage. Or visit the village school, the papermill and the animals at the soldiers’ farm. Learn how to hackle, card wool, spin, weave, bake, dye, make cheese and other chores from past times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wings of history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gammelvala has been arranged every summer since 1963. The board of Brunskog’s Hembygdsf\u00f6rening wanted to make sure that the old professions that existed during the days of the independent household were preserved, as they were at risk of being forgotten. The name Gammelvala means ”the old world”. Today, around 40 professions are displayed during the week – both male and female, and to keep everything going, over 600 people work on a voluntary basis every year. Many who apply live in the area and return every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the week, all days have different themes. From the open-air stage, village games, costume parades and musical performances by both local and famous artists are shown, among other things. In the middle of the week, a large and popular vintage vehicle meeting is arranged with several hundred vintage cars. Along Maskingatan you will find old ignition bulb motors that drive various types of machines, and you can also see men handling the charcoal kiln, burning tar, making ropes, sawing boards and much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local food<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Take the opportunity to try the local food specialties Kleng\u00e5s and N\u00e4vgr\u00f6t & Fl\u00e4sk (pork). During the Gammelvala week, there are many hungry visitors and it takes a full 1 ton of flour and two tons of pork to feed everyone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e4vgr\u00f6t is made with oat flour and is traditionally served with lingonberry jam and pork. A really filling dish that originates from the forest Finns in V\u00e4rmland. Kleng\u00e5s consists of a cake of white bread with butter and grated brown cheese on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
