Eda \u2013 a border municipality close to everything<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Welcome to our border municipality with close proximity to everything. Eda is only an hour and a half by car to Karlstad, the same distance to Norway’s capital Oslo, and even closer to the international airport Gardermoen and Karlstad Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

… Eda has a total of 12 nature reserves. Tallmon Nature Reserve <\/a>in Charlottenberg is centrally located and just a stone’s throw from the shopping area. Here you will find various exercise trails, a warming cabin, shelters, and an outdoor gym.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Approximately 8,600 inhabitants live in Eda. The three largest urban areas are Charlottenberg, \u00c5motfors, and Koppom, and the largest lakes are R\u00e4nken, Bysj\u00f6n, Hugn, and Askesj\u00f6n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A leading business sector and active community life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Eda is home to several large and leading companies within the basic industry. Some of the largest companies are Norma Precision, Nordic Paper, Fundo Components, Hilmer Andersson, and Crem International.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are great opportunities for cross-border shopping at Charlottenberg Shopping Center<\/a> with 60 stores. Some choose to stay overnight at Hotell Charlottenberg<\/a> and enjoy a well-prepared dinner in the evening. During the day, you can also find lunch restaurants inside the shopping centers and along Storgatan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The association life engages many residents of Eda and, with its activities and events, attracts visitors throughout the year. There is a broad interest in sports, making the ice rink in Charlottenberg and the sports halls in \u00c5motfors and Koppom frequently used. In addition, singing and music are close to many hearts. During the summer, the local heritage farms open up with exhibitions, crafts, raffles, cafes with homemade bread, and entertainment by local talents. Midsummer celebrations, Christmas markets, and other activities are also organized here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

… There are many famous people who grew up in Eda. Here are some well-known names such as slalom skier Matts Olsson, biathlete Mona Brorsson, rally driver Pontus Tidemand, opera singer Annalena Persson, and singer Mattias Holmgren.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Cross-border History and Culture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Eda is known for its cross-border history and culture. The border crossing in Morokulien<\/a>, at RV 61\/RV 2, is the second-largest crossing between Sweden and Norway. Morokulien is primarily known for the Peace Monument from 1914, built to commemorate 100 years of peace between the two countries. In Morokulien, the Finnskogleden starts, a unique wilderness trail, 240 km long, through the Finnskog Forest. The trail crosses the national border several times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

… In 2014, Morokulien received a gift from South Korea. It is a Peace Bell housed in a pagoda. The bell reads \u201cTid for Fred\u201d and \u201cTime for Peace,\u201d which fits perfectly in the Peace Kingdom of Morokulien.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Morokulien, Eda Skans and Eda Glassworks<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Eda has several museums and many border-historical monuments worth visiting. The Peace Monument in Morokulien, Eda Skans<\/a> and Eda Skans Museum<\/a>, The Civil Defense Era Museum<\/a>, Skansen Hultet<\/a> and Eda Glass Museum<\/a>. Eda Glassworks closed in 1953, but much glass and other items have been preserved, and there is now also a furnace for small-scale production. Every summer, a theme exhibition is shown in addition to the regular exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities in Eda<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the summer, hiking, paddling, fishing, and swimming attract visitors. By Lake Hugn, you\u2019ll find Eda Golf Club<\/a> with 18 holes and a fantastic lake view. The Pilgrim Trail in Western V\u00e4rmland<\/a> stretches through the municipality along the old railway embankment from Koppom to Skillingmark \u2013 perfect for a nature-filled hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the winter, Valfj\u00e4llet Ski Center<\/a> is a popular destination with its five lifts and twelve slopes. There is also ski rental and ski school. Valter welcomes all families with children!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that…<\/h3>

… Eda has long been known for having a white moose population. Today, there are about 15 white moose, and if you’re lucky, you might spot one of them while in the municipality.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

H\u00e4ljeboda is located in the northernmost part of Eda. Many people come here to canoe or kayak, cycle, hike, fish, or simply enjoy being close to nature. In the western part of Eda lies Skillingsfors. Here you can canoe, hike, fish, and visit a popular waffle caf\u00e9. Skillingmarks Hembygdsg\u00e5rd<\/a>, also known as Frammeg\u00e5rden, is perhaps better known by the name ”Sp\u00f6kg\u00e5rden” (The Ghost Farm). Those who dare can try an overnight stay here. If you visit Skillingsmark during the winter, a visit to Bryelsegrottan<\/a> is well worth it. This cave forms when water from the bogs runs down the mountain and freezes into ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accommodation in Eda<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Whether you want to stay in a luxurious suite, a cabin, or a tent with nature just an arm’s length away, Eda has something for you. Hotell Charlottenberg<\/a> is a conference hotel located between Olav Thon’s shopping buildings. They offer a popular lunch buffet daily, and in the evening, you can choose from a menu with traditional Swedish dishes. Another popular spot is Charlottenberg Camping & Stugor Hagan\u00e4set<\/a>. The campsite is located near national road 61 and by the shore of Bysj\u00f6n lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
