Nytomta is one of the oldest farmsteads in Taserud. It lies like an oasis amid the modern residential area surrounding the Rackstad Museum and serves as a memorial home to Ola Eriksson and his wife Christina, who lived here with their six children from the late 19th century onwards.
Wood and Textiles at Nytomta
Ola was a master woodcarver and the eldest of the well-known Eriksson brothers of Taserud: Christian, Elis and Karl. In addition to their works, visitors can also see pieces by Christina and their daughter Hanna, who was trained as a tapestry weaver. The house also features decorative work by Maja Fjæstad and arts and crafts by several other local artisans and artists.
In its time, the farm was a meeting place for craftsmen, architects and the artists who would go on to form the Rackstad Colony.
Welcome to Nytomta
During the summer season, the weaving studio, weaving shed and exhibition hall are also open to visitors.
The memorial home is within walking distance of the Rackstad Museum and Oppstuhage, making it easy to combine visits.
