The Sågudden Open Air Museum is situated in beautiful surroundings on the shore of Kyrkviken, only a 10 minute walk from the city centre. You can stroll through the area with about 20 historical buildings from the 17th-18th century. The buildings originate from western Värmland. The Open Air Museum was the first one in Värmland when it opened in September, 1922.
The main building, Storbondegården, is open in summer and takes you on a fascinating time travel. The interior shows settings from old days with beautiful folk art cabinets, furniture, and household items and dalecarlia paintings. The Storbondegården museum also holds an interesting collection of items from the Stone Age, the Middle Ages, religious paintings and artefacts.
Outside you can visit the herb garden, arboretum, Café Carli (see opening hours in link) or the playground for children. There is also a building containing old farm vehicle on the premises, open during summertime.
Sågudden holds public events for Midsummer celebrations, for the National Day on June 6, and more.
The Open Air Museum is open the whole year.
Opening hours museum building 2025: 17 June - 17 August, Tuesday - Sunday 11 am-4 pm.
