On certain days during the summer, the traditional Värmland dish “Nävgröt med fläsk” is served at the Gunnarskog and Brunskog Heritage Centers. In a historic setting, a hearty lumberjack-style meal is offered.
Nävgröt is made from roasted and ground oats, known as skrädmjöl. This is a whole-grain flour produced using a wood-fired pan and a stone mill. The dish has been known in Sweden since the 16th century, and its name comes from the fact that the porridge was so dry it broke into clumps that were picked up with the fingers and dipped in pork fat.
