The Arvika-based theatre company Sällskapet Wermlänningarne presents the traditional play The People of Värmland (Värmlänningarna) in authentic Värmland dialect.
The People of Värmland is a classic musical folk comedy that tells the powerful love story of Erik, a farmer’s son, and Anna, the daughter of a poor crofter. Deeply in love, they find their happiness threatened by the long-standing feud between their fathers, Stor-Sven and Torpar-Jan.
Written by Fredrik August Dahlgren in 1845 during the height of the Romantic era’s fascination with rural life, the play features music composed by Andreas Randel and Dahlgren himself. Since 1929, with a break during World War II, The People of Värmland has been performed annually by Sällskapet Wermlänningarne of Arvika. They are the only company that still performs the play in its original Värmland dialect.
Performance starts at 3:00 PM. Visitors are welcome to bring their own chairs. Coffee and refreshments will be available.
