4. Time for Lunch and Coffee break
When it is time for a break, Borgvik offers several excellent places to eat and enjoy a typical Swedish fika.
At Sliperiet Gastronomi, seasonal dishes are prepared with carefully selected ingredients and local flavours. At Kungskvarnen, you can enjoy lunch or fika overlooking the rapids and the historic blast furnace ruins. At Borgviks Gård, homemade dishes and pizzas are served in a charming converted barn, with a focus on quality ingredients and great flavours.
5. Step Back in Time
History is present in every corner of Borgvik. Follow the traces of the ironworks era and discover environments that tell the story of the area’s industrial and cultural heritage. Did you know that iron from Borgvik was even used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris?
Start at Borgvik Museum, where you can learn about everyday life and work during the years when the ironworks was in operation.
At the Blast Furnace Ruins, you can explore remains of the former industrial site and gain a deeper understanding of Borgvik’s development through the centuries. Nearby, Skans 113 forms part of the area’s historic defence and industrial heritage. Other preserved buildings include the Locksmith´s Workshop and The Bakers Cottage, both offering insight into the craftsmanship and daily life of the community.
Just outside central Borgvik lies Borgviksfjället Execution Site, a place that tells a darker chapter of Borgvik’s history.
Together, these sites create a fascinating picture of the ironworks community that once shaped Borgvik.
6. Extend Your Stay
If you would like to stay longer, accommodation is available at Kungskvarnen, a beautiful and picturesque building beside the river. This former 18th-century watermill is an important part of Borgvik’s cultural heritage and offers both accommodation and dining.
Across the road, you will find Borgvik Manor Wing, an elegant 18th-century residence set within a historic environment.
The area also offers accommodation in the small houses of Klaraborg, named after craftsmen who once worked in Borgvik. Here, you can enjoy a more intimate stay surrounded by history and tradition.
