The wheel is a memorial erected by the Hagfors Lions association. The wheel comes from the old mill and was used as a flywheel in the rolling mill when there was a large momentary need for energy to run the rollers, so a heavy wheel was inserted to store kinetic energy and balance the load from the water power.
The weight of the wheel is stated to be about 20 tons for this particular installation. It was in operation from around the 1880s to 1957, when the new rolling mill was completed. It is a concrete reminder of Hagfors' mill history and the importance of industry to the town. For visitors, it gives them the opportunity to see an industrial object outside the factory environment, in the middle of the city. The location between the bridges makes it easily accessible and it can be a nice photo opportunity. Since it is centrally located, you can combine the visit with a walk in the city center.
