An exhibition worth taking a second look at
Siblings Anna, Bror and Ida Sahlström are shown alongside artist friends who helped shape the art of their time. The exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, textiles and crafts, bringing together both the art and the people behind the works.
More than a traditional art exhibition
Sahlströmsgården, outside Torsby in Värmland, is a historic home that offers a glimpse into life around the turn of the 20th century. It is also known for art and crafts by, among others, the Sahlström siblings Anna, Bror and Ida, as well as Erling Ärlingsson and their artist friends Ivan Augéli, Carl Wilhelmson, Karl Nordström and Siri Derkert.
Sahlströmsgården is filled with stories of remarkable artists and their lives. From the turn of the 20th century onwards, artists and cultural figures from across Sweden gathered here. They found inspiration in the landscape and the people, and many returned time and again.
Per Sahlström, a wealthy farmer known as the “King of Fryksdal”, had ten children. To his great disappointment, three of them became artists. Anna became a painter, Bror a sculptor and woodcarver, and Ida – whom her father considered “the best farmhand on the farm” – preferred to weave and design textiles and furniture.

Here you meet paintings, sculptures, textiles and objects from Sahlströmsgården and its circle of artists. Together, they tell stories about the people, ideas and friendships that grew around the farm.
At times, it almost feels like being invited into the artists’ own home.

An old boiler house on the former hospital grounds Marieberg. The house is brick and has bright beautiful rooms. Kafferian is in the same building. For those who want to listen to their own guide, there is an audio guide. You borrow it in the museum's store for free.
