Kristinehamn Art Museum in Marieberg Park offers art from the contemporary scene, beautiful views over Vänern, and inspiring exhibitions. Explore art, history, and nature in a unique setting.
Kristinehamn Art Museum is located in an old boiler house in the scenic Marieberg area, dating back to the 1880s, surrounded by a park with stunning views over Lake Vänern Bay. Over the years, the museum has hosted a remarkable range of exhibitions from some of the world’s most famous artists, including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Alvar Aalto. It’s a place where the contemporary art scene meets a historic setting. Here, you can experience art in an inspiring atmosphere that reflects both the past and the present.
The surrounding Marieberg Park is like a living work of art itself, with beautiful trees, trimmed hedges, and the old brick buildings. Once home to a mental asylum, the area feels like a small town with history in every corner. Take a stroll along the lakeside promenade, stop by the bird tower, or enjoy the rich birdlife in the area. Here, you can combine an art experience with a peaceful moment in nature.
The museum features ever-changing exhibitions, and the current one is as captivating as the previous ones.

Kristinehamn Art Museum houses a permanent art collection presented in the exhibition space known as Kvadraten, next door to the art museum. The collection features works by artists from Kristinehamn, as well as scholarship recipients with roots in Värmland and the Kristinehamn area.
New works are regularly added to the collection, primarily with the support of the organisation "the Friends of Kristinehamn Art Museum". A significant part of the collection consists of donations from the artists Bengt Olson and Stig Olson.
The exhibition is periodically renewed and redesigned every few years.
If you’d like to take a break between art and nature, visit Restaurant Panncentralen, where you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into Italy. Here, you can enjoy authentic Italian food with views of Lake Vänern Bay. The ice cream, made from Värmland’s milk, is a real highlight and will make you want to linger longer.
Afterward, stop by the museum shop to find unique art pieces, jewelry, and local handicrafts to take home. Another tip is Kvadraten, where you’ll find a permanent exhibition featuring works from Värmland’s own artists.
