In Kristinehamn, it’s easy to enjoy the horizon of Lake Vänern

Getting here is easy.

From the town centre, it’s just a few kilometres to Vålösundet and the waterfront promenade that stretches all the way out to the sculpture by Pablo Picasso and the vast horizon of Lake Vänern. The route follows the water and is just as perfect for a bike ride as it is for a leisurely walk.

Along the way, you’ll find swimming spots, a winter sauna, playgrounds, restaurants and cafés open during the summer season.

This is not about doing a lot – it’s about being close to Lake Vänern.

Islands and places to discover

One of the most popular excursion islands is Vålön. It’s easy to rent a kayak or a motorboat and make your way here. You’ll be welcomed by the Three Islands Trail, leading you across bridges between islands, with smooth cliffs for swimming, child-friendly sandy beaches and forests scented with sun-warmed pine. It’s an island that’s easy to fall in love with – whether you’re visiting with family or simply taking the day as it comes.

Among the islands just beyond the town, you’ll also find Alvön and Långön — peaceful places where nature takes centre stage and wide views stretch across Lake Vänern. Find out more about the islands on the Boat Bus page
